API Pumps

NGO American Petroleum Institute (API) was established in the U.S. in 1919 and become an organization that created a standard used worldwide. The Institute is responsible for the development of standards for oil and gas production and processing industry. It systematically inspects standards and constantly updates them, releasing new versions. The essence of these processes is associated with the complexity of refining processes and as a consequence, increase the reliability requirements of pumps according to API.

The main tasks of updating API standards editions for oil and chemical pumps:

  • Safety of refinery processes using API pumps
  • Reliability of pumps (increase turnaround)
  • Compatible pumps according to API, made by different manufacturers (case materials, design, etc.)
  • Standardization of pump units (seal chambers of pumps, etc.)
  • Development and design simplification of API systems and pumps

 

For pumping cold and hot oil with temperatures up to 4500C, gasoline, kerosene, brand oil, crude oil, reflux, diesel fuel, liquefied hydrocarbon gas (LPG), natural gas liquids, refined products with solids and other liquids, a standard API 610 is applied. Although the standard was developed for oil pumps, API pumps work in other processes and industries that require the highest reliability (pumps for chemical processes, polymer production, nitrogen production, pumps for energy, etc.).
